I looked at the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Scanner and the Epson Workforce Pro GT-S50. They both seemed to get good reviews but it seems like both vendors are including lousy software. My main intent is to scan magazines into PDFs and get rid of the hard copies. Any suggestions or recommendations?

Never thought of getting an Epson product before. All of that has changed. It really does do 25 ppm. Double-sided documents are also 25 ppm, so that's 50 ppm. If I want high resolution (600 ppi), that slows it down a little bit.
